Oil Boiler Servicing
Oil Boiler Services
Regardless of how efficient you think your boiler is, it needs regular maintenance. Anything that is used on a daily basis loses its efficiency due to numerous factors.
A boiler service will remove any sooting or carbon and re-establish the optimum combustion conditions. While optimising operating efficiency is paramount in these days of rising fuel costs, there are other important benefits in having your boiler serviced. This is why I recommend carrying out a service on an annual basis to keep the boiler in good condition, working safely and efficiently as well as to prolong the life of the boiler.
I carry out a service with as little disruption to the customer as possible. I usually ask the customer if there has been any problem arising since the last service. I then examine the boiler first by cleaning it out then checking the seals, gaskets etc. Next, I proceed to the burner and replace the nozzle if necessary and then check all the electrodes, sensors, and electrics as well as the general condition of the burner. I also check the oil supply an power to the boiler.
During the service if anything is worn or needs replacement, I will inform the customer and then replace whatever needs replacing. I complete the service by checking the emissions using computerised diagnostic testing equipment and make any adjustments necessary to obtain the highest efficiency.
I always tidy up afterwards and leave the customers house clean. My customers have said they have found a substantial improvement in performance and a reduction on running costs after an annual service.
You should start considering replacing your boiler if it’s more than 15 years old. However, there might also be other signs that you need to replace it such as:
Sign #1: Your boiler needs frequent repairs (roughly every 6 months)
As boilers, experience wear and tear, all the components of the boiler are more prone to breaking down. And if you’re experiencing more and more repairs, at some point you need to ask yourself if it’s still worth it to pour money and time into a deteriorating machine.
Signs #2: Your fuel bills are higher than they used to be.
Older boilers needs to work harder to produce the same heat output. Upgrading to a newer boiler can reduce your bill by as much as 20% or even more.
Sign #3: You see rust, leaks or corrosion.
If you notice that your boiler burners are producing any rust, leaks or corrosion, it means your boiler’s deteriorating at an increasing pace and needs replacing as soon as possible.

If there is one thing you should not attempt to try to fix at home, it is your boiler. Boiler repairs in the home is much more complicated than what you think. Leave it to the professionals to correctly diagnose the problem and provide the best solution to get you up and running again.
Regardless of how well a boiler is looked after, it will break down from time to time like any other mechanical device. This is where it’s handy to have someone local who can get to you as quickly as possible when a boiler stops working unexpectedly or is not functioning properly. Nowadays the boiler is an integral part of every modern home, providing heating and hot water.
I usually talk to the customer first to get the background of the problem. I then proceed to check the boiler out.
After checking out the boiler, I understand the system and can usually diagnose the problem, repair it and then proceed to do an emissions check. I give the system a final check and tidy up before leaving.

Boiler commissioning is needed when a new boiler is installed in your home. This is now a requirement from all the leading manufacturers before a warranty is issued to the homeowner and to ensure the highest standards during installation.
When the plumber has installed the boiler and the electrician has completed the electrical connection, I check over the entire system.
After that, I complete the necessary paperwork to be sent to the manufacturer so they can issue a warranty. I usually talk to the customers to explain how their newly purchased boiler works including the controls service schedule, how to reset the boiler and how to get the best out of the boiler.
In summary, it’s important to commission the new boiler not just to avail of the manufactures warranty but also to get the boiler to the highest efficiency. I have seen so many times during a boiler commissioning where certain areas of the boiler had to be adjusted otherwise it would have led to more serious and costly repairs.

It is imperative to ensure that not only your boiler is serviced and inspected regularly.
